§ Major LLEWELLINasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that a picture frame manufactured in this country and sold wholesale at 1s. 4½d. has an import duty of 6s. levied upon it on its entry into Australia; and, if so, whether he will snake representations to the Federal Government with a view to a modification of such duty upon these articles if manufactured in this country?
§ Mr. GRAHAMThe present Australian customs duty on picture frames of United Kingdom origin is 4s. 6d. each or 97½ per cent.ad valorem, whichever is the higher. Having regard to the reasons which have led to the recent imposition of heavy duties upon many classes of goods, I do not think that representations in this particular case would serve any useful purpose.
