HC Deb 14 May 1930 vol 238 cc1885-6W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the number of shipwrights who have been reverted to labourers, and the number of riveters who have been reverted to low-grade skilled labourers, during each of the last three months, respectively?

Mr. G. HALL

No shipwrights or riveters accepted employment as labourers or low-grade skilled labourers during February or March, 1930. 40 hired shipwrights, of whom 20 were casually employed, accepted alternative employment as labourers during April, 1930, and during the present month 20 riveters have accepted employment as skilled labourers as a temporary measure. These reversions were an alternative to discharge on reduction.
