HC Deb 14 May 1930 vol 238 c1891W
Mr. LAWTHER

asked the hon. Member for Carlisle, as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, what are the factors considered by the commissioners in the sale or leasing of their land; and will the commissioners take steps to help agricultural development by the sale of land to small owners and prevent sale to large owners who sub-let the land purchased?

Mr. MIDDLETON

The hon. Member's first question is not one to which a general answer can be given. With regard to the second, the commissioners cannot give any general undertaking; where farms suitable for small holdings become vacant, the agents have instructions to offer the tenancies to county councils for that purpose, and they are always prepared to consider individual applications.
