§ Mr. C. WILSONasked the Secretary of State for India what was the amount in pounds sterling of the net excise revenue of India for the years 1926–27, 1927–28 and 1928–29, respectively; what was the recorded consumption of country spirits in each of those years in Bengal, Madras, Bombay, Sind, Bihar and Orissa,
974WAlvingham, and North Cockerington if they have to guarantee £9 a year for seven years for a public call office; and whether he has considered the need of these and other country districts being able to summon a doctor in case of illness?
§ Mr. VIANTThe annual loss involved in maintaining call offices at the three villages in question is estimated at £39. Of this loss, £30 will be borne by the Post Office and, in the circumstances, I cannot agree that any hardship is caused by requiring a guarantee for the balance of £9 a year.
