HC Deb 07 May 1930 vol 238 cc983-4W
Sir F. THOMSON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has considered the representations of the Library Association of Great Britain that a grant should be made to the British Museum to enable the trustees to place a copy of the projected new catalogue of the Museum library free of charge in each of 20 selected public libraries, al] in centres of large populations, and to make the catalogue available to such other public libraries as desire to subscribe for it on the same terms as apply to public libraries in the case of Government publications?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

These representations have been very carefully considered. As a result the Government have now decided, in the case of public libraries in this country supported by the rates and of the libraries of universities or university colleges receiving support from public funds, to make a grant of 25 per cent. towards the cost of the catalogue.
