HC Deb 06 May 1930 vol 238 cc771-2W
Major POLE

asked the Secretary of State for India whether any decision has now been reached in regard to the appointment of Indian trade commissioners at certain important centres of trade in Africa and Europe; and whether it is the intention of the Government to reserve appointments to members of the Indian Civil Service?

Mr. BENN

A proposal to appoint Indian trade commissioners at Durban, Mombasa, Alexandria, Hamburg, Milan and New York has been sanctioned, and the Governments of the countries concerned are being asked to give the necessary facilities. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
