HC Deb 05 May 1930 vol 238 c654W
Viscount LYMINGTON

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he proposes to introduce legislation substantially relieving the unequal burden of tithe on agricultural land?

Mr. BUXTON

While it is true that the amount of tithe rentcharge on agricultural land in England and Wales which was fixed under the Tithe Act, 1836, is not uniform, it must be remembered that the liability, which is on the owner of the land, is taken into account on the occasion of the purchase and sale of the land. I am not prepared to introduce legislation amending the existing Tithe Acts.
