§ Mr. SCOTTasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the amount of the expenditure incurred since 1918 out of moneys voted by Parliament in establishing and enlarging small holdings in Scotland; what proportion of that expenditure is not recoverable either in rents payable or by debt redemption or otherwise; and what is the area and the number of small holdings that have been established or enlargely, respectively?
Mr. W. ADAMSONThe total amount of expenditure incurred in establishing and enlarging small holdings in Scotland in the period 1st April. 1919, to 31st December, 1929, was £4,193,369, of which £732,659 may be regarded as irrecoverable. The number of small holdings and enlargements formed in the same period was 2,447 and 1,319 respectively, the total area involved being 476,443 acres.
