§ Mr. JOHNSTONSince 1921 the Department of Agriculture for Scotland have administered schemes under which grants have been given to applicants in aid of expenditure on the drainage of agricultural land. The total amount of grants paid to date in respect of works approved by the Department is £165,495. The balance of the expenditure borne by applicants themselves in respect of the same works is estimated at £254,000. No information is available in regard to expenditure on land drainage met from local public funds.
