§ Mr. LAWSONThe amount of unemployment benefit paid at the Chatham Employment Exchange during the year 1929 was about £89,000; there is no Exchange at Gillingham, Kent, and persons resident there would normally claim benefit at the Chatham Exchange. Separate figures are not available of the amount of Poor Law relief afforded to persons resident in the Chatham and Gillingham districts.
