asked the Minister of Labour the number of men and women registered as unemployed in the Chatham and Gillingham area during the last month?

The following statement gives the information desired:

Thus, any rules made under the Scheme are subject to my approval, and the Board, in exercising their powers under the Scheme, must give effect to any general directions which the Minister of Labour may give after consultation with them. Moreover, if, in connection with any claim to benefit, the Minister is of opinion that a matter of general importance is involved, the Minister has power to direct that the claim be referred from the authorities of the Scheme to the Umpire under the general scheme.
