SHEPPERSONasked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the large surplus this year of British potatoes, he will assist their disposal, either by requesting the American authorities to remove the embargo that now exists against the entry of British potatoes into the United States of America or assist the consumption of British potatoes at home by restricting the entry of new Algerian and Spanish potatoes for a short period?
§ Mr. N. BUXTONI would refer the hon. Member to previous statements on the subject of the United States embargo on British potatoes, to which I am afraid I have nothing to add. With regard to the restriction of imports, the action suggested in the last part of the question is precluded by the International Convention for the Abolition of Prohibitions and Restrictions on Imports and Exports.
