§ Mr. BENNMy latest information, dated January, 1928, was to the effect that the Mehtar of Chitral was making every effort to liberate domestic slaves in the State, and a certain number had already been released and settled on land of their own. The process, it was reported, must be gradual, as the State has no lands at its own disposition, and these had to be obtained from the feudal chiefs in whose villages the Khanazads reside.
