§ Sir R. GOWERasked the First Lord of the Admiralty if any and, if so, how many, employés have been discharged from the Royal Naval Dockyard at Chatham during the last two weeks; and whether any and, if so, how many, further discharges are contemplated in the near future?
Mr. ALEXANDERDuring the two weeks ended 25th January there has been a net reduction of 119 in the number of workmen employed on a casual basis, and the services of about 180 workmen casually employed are expected to be dispensed with during the next month. Apart from the casual workmen, four men have been discharged on reduction during the last two week's, and no further dischargee are immediately in view.
