§ Mr. LEES-SMITHFor the 10 years ending 31st March, 1930, the aggregate surplus on the telephone service is, in round figures, £29,900,000, and the aggregate deficit on the telegraph service £13,700,000. These figures cover operation, maintenance and depreciation, but are before charging interest on capital. In the latter part of the period reductions of telephone charges have been made amounting to many millions of pounds.
