§ Mr. THORNEasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has received a communication from the Federation of Journeyman Butchers pointing out that the embargo against Continental pork has resulted in the closing down of certain bacon factories, thereby depriving men of work through dismissal and short time; and whether he intends taking any action in the matter?
§ Dr. ADDISONThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. In reply to the last part, I can add nothing to the statement which my right hon. Friend has made on several occasions on this subject to the effect that he is satisfied, after careful inquiry, that the embargo is undoubtedly necessary for the protection of livestock in this country from disease.
