Viscountess ASTORasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the number of clerical officers who resigned from the Civil Service during the years 1927, 1928, and 1929, who were paid a marriage gratuity, together with the number of women clerical officers employed during each of those years in the grade?
§ Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCEThe total number of marriage gratuities paid to non-industrial women civil servants in 1928 was 1,550, but I am unable to say in how many cases the recipient was a clerical officer. Information in fuller detail is being collected for 1929, and I will send it to the Noble Lady in due course. I regret that I am unable to give figures for 1927.
