HC Deb 04 February 1930 vol 234 cc1688-9W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will give the particulars of the proposed reductions in the pay of Army officers which it is understood will come into operation in July next?

Mr. SHAW

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply of 28th January, of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, seeing that the Central Wages Board has fixed 67 per cent. as the latest cost-of-living figure and that the wages of railwaymen in the lower traffic grades are to be raised accordingly, he is prepared to make 67 per cent. the cost-of-living figure on which officers' pay is to be regulated in July next?

Mr. SHAW

No, Sir. The rates of officers' pay to come into force from 1st July next have been specially fixed on the basis of a cost of living figure of 70, and I do not propose to reduce that basis to 67.
