§ Mr. FREEMANasked the Attorney-General whether he will consider the possibility of introducing legislation dealing with a reform of the divorce laws in the near future, particularly so that insanity, brutality, incest, and continued drunkenness may be considered as grounds for divorce?
§ The ATTORNEY-GENERALIncest committed since the celebration of the marriage is at present a ground for divorce. As regards the other grounds for divorce suggested by my hon. Friend, Bills, intended to make the change in the law which he suggests have in recent years passed the House of Lords but have failed to make progress in this House, and I have no reason for supposing that there is such a body of opinion in favour of the change in the present House as would justify the Government in occupying Parliamentary time with any such proposals in the present state of Parliamentary business.
