HC Deb 02 December 1930 vol 245 c2020W
Sir R. GOWER

asked the President of the Board of Education whether having regard to the hardship imposed on naval schoolmasters in consequence of the time served by them on ships stationed at Scottish ports not ranking for pension purposes, he will consider the desirability of taking steps to remove such hardship?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

As a general rule, the service of naval schoolmasters is pensionable by the Admiralty, and it is only in exceptional cases that past service in this capacity falls to be considered by the Board of Education under the Teachers' Superannuation Acts. Those Acts do not extend to Scotland, and I see no sufficient reason for so extending them in relation to the very limited class of schoolmasters mentioned in the question.
