Mr. BOWEN

asked the Postmaster-General what is the number of full-time adult employés in the Post Office who receive pay, including cost-of-living bonus, amounting to not more than 40s. a week?

Mr. VIANT

The approximate number of full-time employés of 21 years of age or over who are in receipt of pay, including cost-of-living bonus, amounting to not more than 40s. a week is 1,200. Of these 800 are postmen who are 23 years of age or less, and have not qualified by age for higher pay, and 400 are char-women.

Mr. BOWEN

asked the Postmaster-General what is the number of temporary male sorting clerks and telegraphists, and the number who are in receipt of an inclusive wage of less than 50s. for a full week?

Mr. VIANT

The latest date for which the information desired by the hon. Member is available is September last. At that time 469 temporary male sorting clerks and telegraphists were employed, 127 of whom were in receipt of an inclusive wage of less than 50s. for a full week.
