HC Deb 02 December 1930 vol 245 c2023W
Mr. SHEPHERD

asked the Minister of Health when the dietary suggested by the Vagrancy Committee is likely to be put into operation; and whether there are any reasons to prevent casual ward authorities from giving the same mid-day meal to casuals as to inmates of the institutions where they so desire?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I hope to present the new Order regulating the relief of the casual poor at an early date, and I am in the meantime prepared to sanction the immediate adoption by any council of the dietary recommended by the Departmental Committee on the Relief of the Casual Poor. In answer to the second part of my hon. Friend's question, there would, as was pointed out in the Committee's report, be practical difficulties in supplying casuals with the meals which are given to ordinary inmates of Poor Law institutions, especially in the smaller institutions.
