§ Mr. SHORTSome years ago police authorities were recommended to select their materials for police uniform from a list prepared by an interdepartmental committee on which the Home Office was represented by one of His Majesty's inspectors of constabulary. The question of adopting standard patterns of uniform has been discussed more than once, but has not been pressed in view of difficulties experienced and the strong local preferences for articles of one pattern or another.
