HC Deb 09 April 1930 vol 237 c2192W
Mr. KELLY

asked the Postmaster-General the result of his inquiries into the late delivery of mails in Douglas, Isle of Man, when the boat from the mainland arrives after 8.30 a.m.?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

It is the practice during the winter months to despatch a special mail from Liverpool when the Steam Packet Company run a night cargo boat. Owing to tidal and weather conditions the boats occasionally arrive late, and, as the commencement of the morning delivery cannot be delayed indefinitely, the latest time of arrival of the mail at the Douglas office to connect with that delivery has been fixed at 8.30 a.m.
