Of these the following numbers received assistance under the Empire Settlement Act:
British North America … 65,558 Australia … 18,377 New Zealand … 4,700 In addition 37,140 persons proceeded to Canada at their own expense under the special passage rate of £10, whilst 3,428 persons proceeded to Canada, and 680 to Australia, with free passages after a period of training in this country, for farm work.
British North America … 21,634 Australia … 11,525 New Zealand … 1,849 The total number of persons returning from the countries in question to this country with a view to permanent residence here during 1929 was as follows:
It is not possible to say how many of these persons were originally assisted migrants from this country.
