CHAPMANasked the Minister of Agriculture if he has any information as to the German system which makes compulsory the use of native wheat in all millers' grists; how long this system has been in operation; what is the proportion of native wheat; if it is regulated from time to time; and if he will consider the introduction of a similar system in this country?
§ Mr. N. BUXTONThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. Under the system to which the hon. Member refers and which has been in operation in Germany since 1st August, 1929, the proportion of native wheat to be used in milling is fixed month by month, and has been maintained at 50 per cent. since 1st October last. The system is being examined, but I am Unable at present to add anything further to previous statements on the question of the compulsory use by millers of a definite quota of home-grown wheat.
