HC Deb 31 October 1929 vol 231 cc347-8W
Mr. HAMMERSLEY

asked the Chancelor of the Exchequer whether it is proposed to take steps to give the committee to be set up to inquire into the relationship between industry and finance the power to call for papers and compel the attendance of witnesses?

Mr. SNOWDEN

I do not think that any such powers will be necessary.

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the com- mittee to inquire into the relation of industry and finance is to be set up; who are the members who are to constitute that committee; and what are to be the terms of reference?

Mr. SNOWDEN

The constitution of the Committee is now practically completed, and I hope to be able to make a formal announcement within the next few days.

Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can give the names of the members and the terms of reference of the proposed Committee to inquire into banking and credit?

Mr. SNOWDEN

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave to-day to the hon. Member for Devonport (Mr. Hore-Belisha).
