HC Deb 31 October 1929 vol 231 cc362-3W
Sir R. GOWER

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what saving has been effected in the amount of wages paid to established workmen engaged on construction work in the Royal Naval Dock-yard at Chatham in consequence of his baying abolished or suspended overtime and piecework there?

Mr. AMMON

With the object of employing as many men as possible on the work in the Royal Dockyards, overtime and piecework have been reduced, but they have not been abolished or suspended. Hired as well as established workmen are affected by this change. It is not possible to state the saving thus effected in the amount of wages paid to established workmen engaged on construction work at Chatham.
