asked the President of the Board of Trade if he can state the respective number of persons engaged and with the total output for each trade in the following industries: shipbuilding, engineering, cotton, wool textiles, building trades, and the iron and steel trades?

In the following statement, relating to the year 1924, the average numbers of persons employed in the industries specified are stated, together with the aggregates of the values of the output shown in the returns made to the Board of Trade at the Third Census of Production by the firms in those

Trade or Industry. Persons Employed (excluding outworkers.). Gross Output (Selling Value of the products of individual firms and value of work done). Net Output (Excess of Gross Output over cost of materials and amount paid for work given out).

Particulars of output covering the various trades have not been ascertained in respect of any year more recent than 1924.
