HC Deb 15 November 1929 vol 231 cc2405-6W
Mr. MANDER

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what subsidies were paid and for what purposes during the past year to civilians or civilian concerns for naval reasons?

Mr. AMMON

During the financial year ended 31st March last, £89,997 was paid to manufacturers of armour plate for maintenance of productive capacity,

industries. These output totals involve duplication, owing to the fact that the output of certain of the firms form, in whole or in part, material for the operations of other firms in the same trade, so that its value is repeated in the value shown by the latter firms for their out put. There are shown, accordingly, in the last column of the statement, the results of deducting from the gross out put the cost of materials used and also the amounts paid to other firms for work given out to them. The totals thus reached represent, free of duplication, the values added to materials in the pro cesses carried out in the several industries.

this sum being spread over the orders given for armour plate during the year in question.
