HC Deb 14 November 1929 vol 231 c2262W
Sir K. WOOD

asked the Minister of Labour if she will state the number of persons on the registers of the Employment Exchanges at West Ham (Canning Town and Stratford) since June last?

Miss BONDFIELD

The following table shows the numbers of persons on the registers of the Employment Exchanges at Canning Town and Stratford on each Monday of the period 1st July, 1929, to 4th November inclusive:

Wall for the formation and reconstruction of roads in Cornwall, in view of the serious state of unemployment in Plymouth, unemployed men in Plymouth should be transferred rather than men from the so-called depressed areas; and what action she proposes to take?

Miss BONDFIELD

I have received the resolution. I am afraid I cannot make an exception from the rule applied to all cases where the special transfer terms are granted, namely, that the requisite proportion of men must be employed from the depressed coalmining areas.
