HC Deb 14 November 1929 vol 231 c2242W
Sir H. YOUNG

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any plans for the construction of new railways in Tanganyika and Nigeria have been suggested by the Committee under Sir Basil Blackett set up under the recent Colonial Development Act; and, if so, what is the estimated cost of construction in each case?

Mr. LUNN

The Committee has not itself suggested any new railway construction in Tanganyika or Nigeria, but it has had before it an application from the Tanganyika Government for a grant from the Colonial Development Fund to defray interest charges during construction in respect of the proposed new railway from the Tanganyika Central Line to the Iramba Plateau, which is estimated to cost £565,000.
