HC Deb 11 November 1929 vol 231 c1540W
Mr. FOOT

asked the Minister of Transport if he will state the rates of wages now being paid to workmen employed on grant-aided road schemes in the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset; and whether he is satisfied that the fair wages clause is being observed?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

I have no record of the rates of wages paid to workmen on grant-aided schemes in the counties mentioned. It is a condition of grants from the Road Fund that the Fair Wages Clauses shall be inserted in any contracts entered into in connection with the works to which the grants re late, and I have no reason to suppose that, in the case of the counties mentioned, this condition is not being observed.
