HC Deb 07 November 1929 vol 231 cc1268-9W
Mr. MANSFIELD

asked the Minister of Health (1) whether there are any cases in which the Treasury contribution has been increased through the revaluations carried out under the 1925 Act;

(2) whether he is in a position to indicate the approximate saving to the Treasury under the contributions payable to local authorities in respect of the Housing Act, 1919, in view of the increase in assessments following the revaluations carried out in accordance with the Rating and Valuation Act, 1925?

Mr. GREENWOOD

For the purposes of calculating the grants payable to local authorities under the Housing, Town Planning, etc., Act, 1919, it will obviously be necessary to have regard both to the increases and decreases in the produce of a penny rate which have resulted from the revaluation under the Rating and Valuation Act, 1925, and to the reduction of that produce which will result from the de-rating provisions of the Local Government Act, 1929. Figures showing the conjoint effect of these two operations are not yet available, and no estimate of the increase or reduction of the Exchequer contributions under the Housing Act can yet be given.
