HC Deb 07 November 1929 vol 231 c1283W
Mr. PRICE

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he will consider in any scheme for the nationalisation of royalties the inclusion of iron-ore minerals; and whether he will consider the financing of welfare work for iron-ore miners in any scheme for the reorganisation of the mining industry?

Mr. TURNER

I cannot give any assurance on these matters at the present time. The proposals which are now under consideration relate to the coal mining industry.

Mr. MANSFIELD

asked the Secretary for Mines if it is intended that the new legislation dealing with the coal-mining industry shall be made applicable to stratified seams of ironstone such as are worked in the Cleveland district?

Mr. TURNER

I cannot say precisely what the details of any Measure would be before it is introduced, but speaking generally my hon. Friend will understand that the industry to which they would be directed is the coal mining industry.
