HC Deb 07 November 1929 vol 231 cc1263-4W
Mr. BOWEN

asked the Minister of Health what are the estimated annual amounts by which occupiers of agricultural land and buildings in each of the following counties will benefit through the provisions of the Local Government Act, 1929: Cheshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Derbyshire, Essex, Kent, Notts, Shropshire, Surrey, War wick and Norfolk?

Mr. GREENWOOD

The Local Government Act, 1929, exempts the occupiers of agricultural land and agricultural buildings from rates in respect of those hereditaments. It is estimated, on the basis of the provisional claims received for the first half of the current financial year for grants under the Agricultural Rates Act, 1929, that the annual amount of rates which would, but for the above-mentioned exemption, have been payable by occupiers in respect of agricultural land and agricultural buildings situate in any administrative county mentioned in column 1 of the following table is approximately the amount set opposite the name of that county in column 2 of the table:

Name of Administrative County. Amount.
1. 2.
£
Cheshire 93,000
Berkshire 35,000
Hampshire 62,000
Isle of Wight 7,000
Derbyshire 79,000
Essex 85,000
Kent 105,000
Notts. 59,000
Shropshire 111,000
Surrey 31,000
Warwick 78,000
Norfolk 155,000
