§ Mr. REMERasked the Minister of Labour how many countries have ratified the Washington Hours Convention; if she has obtained any Report as to the practice by which these countries have interpreted the Convention; and, if so, will she cause these Reports to be published as a White Paper?
§ Mr. LAWSONFourteen countries have ratified the Convention. Of these ratifications five are conditional upon ratification by other countries and have not yet become operative. Under Article 1065W 408 of the Treaty of Versailles reports are rendered annually to the International Labour Office by the various States members upon the measures taken to give effect to the provisions of Conventions to which they are parties. These reports are examined by a Committee of experts appointed by the governing body. A summary of the reports and the Report of the Committee are published annually in the report of the director of the office to the International Labour Conference. The director's reports are on sale to the public, and copies are available in the Library of this House.
