HC Deb 06 November 1929 vol 231 cc1047-8W
Mr. HARRIS

asked the Minister of Transport whether any scheme has been approved for the improvement of Liverpool Street Station and the improvement of the facilities for suburban traffic; and when work on these improvements is likely to be commenced?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

Amongst the schemes which the railway company concerned are undertaking in connection with the repeal of the Railway Passenger Duty is one for the widening of the main line between Romford Junction, Gidea Park and Romford Factory. The company have stated that work on this scheme is being taken in hand at once, and that it will afford considerable relief in the working of the suburban traffic to and from Liverpool Street Station. I have also been informed by the company that other schemes for the improvement of Liverpool Street Station and for the electrification of the suburban area served by that station are under consideration.
