HC Deb 05 November 1929 vol 231 cc850-1W
Mr. W. THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that Section 5, Subsection 2, of the Sale of Food (Weights and Measures) Act, 1926, in respect to the sale of butchers' meat on Saturday evenings is being violated in the popular marketing centres of the Metropolis, inasmuch as the joints displayed indicate the total value, but in the vast majority of cases with no weight or cost per pound marked on the ticket, and are sold to the customer without being weighed; and if he will make inquiries as to what steps are being taken to avoid these abuses?

Mr. W. R. SMITH

The administration of the Sale of Food (Weights and Measures) Act, 1926, in the Metropolis is carried out by the local authorities of the County and City of London, respectively, and so far as I am aware satisfactorily, but I will cause inquiry to be made if my hon. Friend will be good enough to furnish me with some further particulars.
