HC Deb 04 November 1929 vol 231 c645W
Mr. ALPASS

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the trial of Queenie Florence Smith, at the Bristol Police Court on 25th October, 1929, when she was sentenced to three months' imprisonment; and if, in view of the delicate state of her health and other circumstances, he will consider a remission of the sentence?

Mr. CLYNES

My attention had not been called to this case. I have obtained reports and I find that the question of probation was fully considered by the Court. The offences were deliberately committed and were of a serious character, and I regret that I can only say, after full consideration, I should not he justified, consistently with my public duty, in advising interference with the sentence passed by the Court.
