HC Deb 04 November 1929 vol 231 c647W
Mr. W. BROWN

asked the Minister of Labour if she will state the number of persons removed from benefit in Wolverhampton under the fourth statutory provision for the period since the introduction of the courts of assessors as compared with the corresponding period of last year?

Mr. LAWSON

During the five weeks ended 14th October, 1929, 32 claims to benefit made at the Wolverhampton Employment Exchange were disallowed by insurance officers on the ground that the claimants were not genuinely seeking work and eight on the ground that the claimants were not unable to obtain suitable employment. In the four weeks ended 8th October, 1928, 85 claims were disallowed on the ground "not genuinely seeking work," and none on the ground that the claimants were not unable to obtain suitable employment.

Mr. W. BROWN

asked the Minister of Labour if she will state the number of new claims to benefit admitted in Wolverhampton during the last four months as compared with the corresponding period of last year, the numbers rejected for the same periods, and the average number of persons unemployed during these two periods?

Mr. LAWSON

I will circulate a statement in the OFFICIAL REPORT as soon as the information desired has been tabulated.
