HC Deb 01 November 1929 vol 231 cc489-90W
Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Health whether he can state the number of cases reported of typhoid, and the number of deaths that have occurred in the London area for the three months ended to the last convenient date; and whether his officers have been able to trace the origin of these outbreaks?

Mr. GREENWOOD

As regards the first part of the question, the particulars required are as follow:

Enteric Fever (Typhoid and Paratyphoid).
County of London. Deaths of London residents occurring in London or in Metropolitan Institutions out side London.

6th July 2 1
13th July 5

10th August 5 1
17th August 6
24th August 11
31st August 4
7th September 9 2
14th September 17 3
21st September 6 1
28th September 6
5th October 5
12th October 23 1
19th October 30 3
26th October 41 3
Total 187 18

(In addition there were two deaths occurring in London of non-residents of the County of London. The notifications in these cases are not included above).

As regards the recent outbreak in South-East London, which is responsible for the large increase in notifications this month, my officers have co-operated with the medical officers of health of the districts affected. I understand that the source of this outbreak has not yet been definitely traced, but there is reason to believe that the infection is no longer operative.
