HC Deb 21 March 1929 vol 226 c1880W
Colonel WOODCOCK

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number of registered holders of 5 per cent. War Loan, 1929–47, and 3½ per cent. Conversion Loan, 1961, respectively, and the average amount of each holding?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The number of accounts of registered 5 per cent. War Loan is approximately 2,770,000 and the total held is £1,875,518,546. The number of accounts of registered 3½ per cent. Conversion Loan is approximately 282,000 and the total held £740,270,256. In view of the size of particular holdings, e.g., on account of Government Funds, an average derived from these figures would be misleading. It must also be borne in mind that the number of accounts, which alone is available, is no safe guide to the number of individual holders.

Colonel WOODCOCK

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number of accounts of £1,000 or under of registered 5 per cent. War Stock and 3½ per cent. Conversion Loan?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The numbers of accounts of registered holdings of £1,000 or under are approximately 2,523,000 for the 5 per cent. War Loan and 183,000 for the 3½ per cent. Conversion Loan.
