§ Colonel WOODCOCKasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what amount of tax has been received for each of the last three years as duty on first-class railway passengers' fares?
Mr. SAMUELThe receipts in respect of railway passenger duty for the financial years 1926–27 and 1927–28 amounted to £387,845 and £376,298 respectively. It is estimated that the receipts for the financial year 1928–29 will amount to £370,000. While the greater part of the receipts is in respect of the duty paid on first-class passenger fares, the information available is not sufficient to determine the exact amount.
