HC Deb 14 March 1929 vol 226 c1298W
Colonel WOODCOCK

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what amount of tax has been received for each of the last three years as duty on first-class railway passengers' fares?

Mr. SAMUEL

The receipts in respect of railway passenger duty for the financial years 1926–27 and 1927–28 amounted to £387,845 and £376,298 respectively. It is estimated that the receipts for the financial year 1928–29 will amount to £370,000. While the greater part of the receipts is in respect of the duty paid on first-class passenger fares, the information available is not sufficient to determine the exact amount.
