§ Mr. HANNONasked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to a resolution adopted, at its recent annual general meeting, by the National Federation of Employés Approved Societies, which emphasised the benefit to be derived from osteopathic treatment and recommended such treatment as an additional benefit; and if he is prepared to consider favourably this suggestion provided treatment is given by competent qualified practitioners?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINMy attention has not previously been drawn to this resolution. A registered medical practitioner is not debarred from giving osteopathic treatment, if he thinks fit, either under a special scheme approved by the Minister for the purpose of additional benefit number 8, or otherwise. If, however, my hon. Friend intends to suggest legislation to encourage the provision of such treatment by unregistered persons, I cannot undertake to regard the suggestion with favour.
