HC Deb 14 March 1929 vol 226 c1289W
Major GLYN

asked the Secretary for Mines what are the quantities of motor spirit (including benzol) produced to-day from Scottish shale and other various carbonisation processes that have been established for treating coal; what were the corresponding figures for 1928 and 1926, respectively; and what is the anticipated or the probable output for the current year?

Commodore KING

It is estimated that the production of motor spirit (including benzol) from Scottish shale, coke ovens, gas works and tar distilleries amounted to approximately 33,000,000 gallons in 1928 and 16,000,000 gallons in 1926, the figures for the latter year are being affected by the coal stoppage. I can give no figures of the anticipated or probable output for the current year.
