HC Deb 14 March 1929 vol 226 c1286W
Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to two cases tried at Chester on Wednesday, 6th March, in which it appeared that, while the doctors declared offenders to be insane, they would not sign the certificate owing to a recent High Court case, where heavy costs had been awarded against the doctor for the alleged wrongful certifying of a person; and will he, in view of the state of the law on the subject, consider the introduction of legislation which will clarify the position with regard to such certificates issued by medical officers?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given yesterday to a similar question by my hon. Friend the Member for the Royton Division (Dr. Davies).
