asked the Home Secretary the number of officers belonging to the Metropolitan Police Force that were employed on police duty outside the Metropolitan district for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date, giving the gross number of days these officers were engaged on such duty?

The number of Metropolitan police officers employed outside the Metropolitan Police District, i.e., in the Dockyard Divisions, throughout the year ending 16th February, was 483. In addition, a number of officers normally employed within the district were employed outside the district either individually for short periods (escorting prisoners, etc.) or in substantial numbers at various public functions. The following are the circumstances in which substantial numbers were employed in this way during the year:
