§ Mr. O. BALDWINasked the Home Secretary whether ho will take steps to remove the censorship on Russian films which deal with incidents of Russian history, such as the Cruiser Potemkin, etc.?
§ Mr. CLYNESThe censorship of films in this country rests with the British Board of Film Censors and local authorities. I have no control over either, and I am not prepared to recommend any interference with their existing powers. Apart from such censorship, steps have been taken in a few instances to prevent the importation and exhibition of certain Russian films of a propagandist character. Any such case coming before me will be carefully considered on its merits.
