§ Mr. SHINWELLasked the Minister of Pensions whether he is aware that Mr. Andrew Murray, of Uphall Station, West Lothian, made an application for pension in September, 1927; and was then declared to be suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis; that his application was rejected because of the seven years' limit; that during the period of his pensionable disability (malaria) he was known to be tubercular; and that his medical adviser states that his present disability was aggravated by War service; and whether, in view of the man's inability to remain at work, he will exercise his discretion in re-opening the case?
Lieut.-Colonel STANLEYThis case has, as the hon. Member has already been informed, been very carefully considered. The medical evidence in the possession of the Ministry does not confirm the hon. Member's statement that, the tuberculosis was known to be present during the period the man was receiving compensation from the Ministry for malaria, nor does it indicate any grounds for connecting his present condition with his war service. In these circumstances my right hon. Friend regrets that he is unable to take further action with regard to the case.
